Memorial Day weekend

Durham Bulls baseball

We had a nice visit from Erika's family during the Memorial Day weekend. They've been to Raleigh several times, but we still found a few new things to do.

The Farmer's market was the first stop on Saturday for some lunch at the popular Seafood Restaurant. If you go, remember that the portions are huge, so order wisely. Then we we drove out to see the Durham Bulls play ball. The Bulls lost, but the game was still fun. Right after the game, we were treated to a pretty good fireworks display set to music. We even scored a few free cases of soda they were giving away after the game. on the way to the car. If you've never seen all the renovations Durham's done around the stadium, you should check it out.

Sunday we went to sniff and see the Raleigh Rose Garden. It's just about 2 blocks north of the NCSU library. Very pretty, and we took lots of pictures. Then we drove out to South Point mall for kicks and a little shopping. For dinner Erika made her acclaimed rootbeer BBQ pork which was great as usual.

Monday we saw some movies at the nearby Mission Valley Theatre

New Grill

Grill

We finally bought a grill. I shopped around a bit to see what was available, and I settled on a gas grill at Lowes. It's looks pretty good, 42,000 total BTU, lots of space to cook over the 3 main burners, side burner on the left for a pot. The first night I cooked some steaks for dinner. A cool thing about grills is that when the power goes out, you can still cook food. We don't often lose power in Raleigh, but it's nice to have that option for when we do.

Grandparents and Mother's day

The G's P

While we were in Knoxville, we took the opportunity to make the short drive up to see my grandparents. Then we met up with my parents, sister, aunt and uncle and we all went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. Lunch was fun, and we caught up as we talked about what everybody's been up to. It was a nice visit.

Michelle's Grad Party

Erika, Michelle, Rita

This weekend we drove out to Knoxville to celebrate our good friend Michelle Allen's graduation. She just finished her masters degree and rightfully wanted to celebrate a bit. Several of her friends nearby organized a party at a neighborhood's clubhouse in way-west Knoxville. It was a lot of fun and around 20-30 people showed up. We took some pictures of all the fun.

Seis de Mayo

Pinata
Saturday evening I headed over to Adam and Kristin's house for the FSC semester-end "Seis de Mayo / Derby" party. It was a lot of fun. Tri had prepared pinatas decorated like UNC and Duke which we took turns pummeling with an NCSU red bat. I posted a bunch of pictures of all the fun.

Durham Bulls

Big Bull

We drove out to the Durham baseball park to see a minor league game Thursday night with several friends. The Bulls lost, but we still had fun and took some pictures. Once in a while, the park does a "dollar dog night" where concessions are pretty cheap. No luck on beer though, that stays normal price. As we walked into the stadium, a guest services guy asked if we were in school. After a short conversation, he talked me, Tri, and Phil into running a relay race around the field against two other teams from UNC and Duke. Since I had run track in highschool, I took the anchor leg, with Phil and Tri before me. We didn't win, but it was still fun. The winning team got some Bulls t-shirts. They also took our picture, so it might be out there somewhere.
