Beautiful Day

I think Spring just decided to come along today. Yesterday was cold, windy and rainy, and today feels like late April. It looked like everyone around campus got the memo about it too; I saw shorts and sandals on lots of people.
I thought that was pretty funny. It's been my observation that most college people have about a one-day weather memory. If it's sunny and warm one day, they'll choose clothes accordingly on the next day, even if the weather man says we'll have feezing rain. So since it was nasty out yesterday, it suprised me that so many people wore warm weather clothes today. I guess my hypothesis has some flaws. Or maybe the idea of Spring was overpoweringly appealing for everyone. At any rate, it was a beautiful day.

Website Comments

It was brought to my attention today that people couldn't leave comments on here. That's wasn't our intention, so I took a look and found out I had a setting wrong. Anyway, it should be fixed now, so feel free to leave any comments you like. If there's a problem like that in the future, just send us an email and we'll take a look at it. The way a comment works on here is we have to approve it after you post one, so you won't be able to see it instantly. Have fun!

Visit from the folks

Erika's family came to visit us tonight. They're stopping over on their way to the Outer Banks. I think we'll see them again on Wednesday on their way back to Greeneville. So we had the opportunity to introduce Annie to them for the first time too. She was pretty skiddish at first, but let them pet her after whe warmed up a bit.

Lara makes her premiere

My sister, Lara has a new home on the web. Go check it out at www.laraonwheels.us. Perhaps the layout will give you an idea who helped her with it :) We're still working on it, but it's operational and I know she plans to add entries pretty often. Hats off to Lara!

Sprouting some more grass

If you haven't heard, I'm trying to seed a lawn in the fenced-in part of our back yard. When we moved in, there wasn't anything but a couple of old bushes and lots of leaves and dirt around the patio. Well, after some grass advice from Tom, we ran out to Lowes and got some creeping red fescue seed, lawn starter fertilizer, and a couple large bags of peat moss. I started with a small patch in the back corner and after it sprouted I worked on the rest of the space behind the patio. This second patch took longer to sprout, almost a month, but it finally did today!

Since Annie also uses the backyard for her business, I had to do something to keep her out of the usually damp, sometimes muddy freshly seeded plots of ground. I put together a short fence with several planks of wood, but after a couple weeks Annie learned she could just jump over it. And then we learned that she really liked digging in this dirt also. So I used the parts from the second dog kennel we got with the house to augment the wooden fence, and that's worked fine.

I'm not sure how long it takes grass to fill in well, but hopefully by summer sometime we'll have a much nicer-looking back yard.

Green Fuzz

Annie decided to redecorate her crate a bit today. I think she lost her chew toys and got bored. Take a look at the green fuzz from her mattress.

Mmmm Toasty

Wayne made me type on here. I like Quizno's. Especially since they have Diet Mt. Dew on tap.

Notice anything different?

I've given the website drastic cosmetic surgery. Since the old page was pretty plain and boring, I decided to incorporate the blog as the major component. But don't worry, all the original stuff can still be found here, in about the same place it was before. Photo gallery and webmail still work and have links to the left on the main page. weather.com's tile didn't want to cooperate with PHP, so I ditched it in favor of a new one. Yes, I've also changed the main page from index.html to index.php... It's just better that way for now at least. There's a forwarding page for anybody who linked to the old one. I'm not sure if this color scheme will stay, but the general layout of the site should be pretty constant for a while.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Try out the Comments link below this post to share your thoughts.

Power trouble

So our new office in Burlington is proving to have even more annyoying 'features'. The feature of the day was more like a lack of a feature, namely ELECTRICITY! One would imagine that keeping electricity running to an office room would make sense, but no, not at NCSU. I think the construction workers must have needed to turn off a circuit do do some work, but it would have been nice if we'd known about it ahead of time.
We came in this morning and found no electricity. Apparently the power had been off since 5:14am. Finally, around 11:00 it came back on, and we're happy. We set the clocks, and do start to do some work. Then, an hour later, it goes off again with no warning. This is very frustrating, since I was working on a desktop computer with no UPS.
Luckily, I had my new laptop with me, so I did some work for two hours until my battery was drained. Maybe they'll have it fixed by Monday...

#3

Going in reverse chronological order, I can now talk about the first install of this thing. I was able to make the back end run, but I couldn't get the front end to do anything, and I couldn't seem to do anythign to change the templates. Also I somehow crashed the blog when I tried to change it to Dynamic. So, I went on to the second (previous) install.

2nd entry

So apparently I need to add several posts to see how the format is supposed to look.

So on the 2nd install of MT, I somehow royally messed up the templates, and couldn't fix it. Thus I went to the third (current) install...

First Entry

Okay, this is the third time I'm installing MT. lalala
